I was a dancer up until college and then I found Pilates. I knew one day I wanted to be a Teacher Trainer, I find inspiration from taking workshops and classes from other instructors. There is always something to learn!
Preventive medicine was a priority in my family, and the word “melanoma” was never uttered. I grew up in an era before sunscreen and video games, where we played outside until the street lights came on. I was also surprised that men my age were the segment with the second-highest rate of occurrence for melanoma in the US.
I feel very honored and proud to say that I've been teaching this beautiful method for almost 20 years.
Many new teachers will come to me and ask how do I do it? How do I teach 40 hours a week and not burn out? Doesn't your body get tired? Don't you get sick of teaching the same exercises over and over? I think what keeps me going is I truly love the Pilates method and I love teaching.
It was Summer 2006 -- the heated months of Shakira's Hips Don't Lie and Nelly Furtado's Promiscuous Girl. I was a rising sophomore at NYU -- feeling invincibly on top of the world -- and home for the summer in Suburban Philadelphia, working at Express and saving up to study abroad.
